How to Build a Business While also Working Full-Time

Starting a business is hard. It's tough to find the time and energy to build a business when you're already working full-time at another job, raising kids, or both...why?

  • You don't have enough hours in the day to devote to your new business idea.
  • Your spouse doesn't want you spending more time away from home than necessary.
  • You can't afford childcare while running errands for your company on evenings and weekends.

We've got some great advice for entrepreneurs who are also working full-time! Here are our top tips for entrepreneurs who work 40+ hours per week outside of their business:

Figure Out How Much Time You Actually Have to Work on Your Business.

It's easy for entrepreneurs who are working full-time jobs outside of their business to overestimate how much time they actually have available.

Building a business while also working 40 hours per week seems like an impossible task, but it can be done--with some hard work and dedication.

If you are looking to start your own business as well as raise a family at the same time, there are some things that you need to know about how to do both successfully.

This blog post will help entrepreneurs who would like to start their own business with limited time on their hands. We'll go over everything from how entrepreneurs should market themselves and sell products, all the way down to what types of tasks entrepreneurs should delegate if they want to maximize productivity and limit stress.

Identify Your Daily Task

First, figure out exactly what you do during the day at work...then subtract that from 24 hours (more if you're a parent). The difference represents how large of a time commitment you can realistically afford to devote to your business each week.

We recommend entrepreneurs who work full-time jobs spend no more than an extra hour per day working on their businesses. So if you work five days per week, then you can commit an additional five hours per week towards your business.

Here are some tips on how entrepreneurs can market their products when working full-time. Some of these options include:

  • social media,
  • direct marketing campaigns,
  • free giveaways.

Reading this article you’ll discover the different ways entrepreneurs have successfully marketed their products or services without spending too much time away from family obligations.

Key Points Entrepreneurs Should Consider When Looking for Ways to Market.

Today, most entrepreneurs and solopreneurs work full-time at their day job while running a business on the side. However, it can be quite difficult to start marketing your products or services in such little time outside of working hours. For this reason, we’ve compiled some key points entrepreneurs should consider when looking for ways to market. There are many ways to grow your business with little money or no time.

Consider How to Market Your Products or Services

The first thing entrepreneurs should consider is how they can market their products or services using the internet. One of the main reason entrepreneurs don’t successfully sell their products online is because they fail to put some effort into marketing strategies.

When it comes to entrepreneurs who are looking for ways on how to start a business with limited time, you need to be very specific about where you are putting your attention.

Keyword Research

Put some effort into researching the keywords that potential customers use when they are searching for your products or services, then incorporate these same keywords in all of your uploads to get more views on various platforms.

The use of keyword research can be an invaluable tool in drawing customers to your website.

When done correctly, keyword research can save you loads of time and money from the start. It's a strategy that can extend your reach without spending money on pay-per-click marketing efforts.

Social media can also help entrepreneurs gain traction if their posts reach a lot of people. By using the same keywords in social media posts, entrepreneurs are able to get their content in front of more people.

Next, you should consider how to prioritize your business tasks.

It is not always easy to know what the most important tasks are when you have a full workload. One strategy that can help, is to prioritize your list by its urgency; Important, Urgent, and Non-Urgent.

The 'Important' section should contain all of your tasks that need to be done before anything else for the business to keep running smoothly.

The 'Urgent' section should contain any work which needs completing within 24 hours or less for it not to affect other areas of the business but isn't necessarily crucial in its own right.

Finally, the 'Non-Urgent' section should contain everything else – things like long-term goals or projects – which don't need attention as urgently.

Identify the Most Important Task for Your Business to Complete.

i.e.: The most important task for my business to complete is getting new leads. Without leads, it would be difficult for me to make any revenue. I need leads before I can do anything else in my business.

Also, Identify the least urgent task for your business to complete.

i.e.: The least urgent task for my business to complete is updating our website. The website is not hurting anything, but it will take a lot of time that my time isn't currently worth it, so I'll need to find someone who can help me with this project so that I can focus on other tasks in my business

Prioritize your business tasks by urgency: Important, Urgent, and Non-Urgent. Follow the examples below:

i.e.: My business task list goes as follows:

     1. Get new leads

Get new leads – This is URGENT as without this, I will not generate any revenue so it needs completing before anything else on this list otherwise it will affect future business.

     2. Write blog posts to attract those leads

Write blog posts to attract those leads – This is also URGENT but less so than getting new leads, therefore it can come after step 1 on this business task list.

     3. Write articles for a newsletter sent out to existing customers

Write articles for a newsletter sent out to existing customers – This is not urgent and should be put in the Non-urgent section of my business task list. It will also help engage with the business' main client base which will lead to better business opportunities in the future.

     4. Update social media profiles

Update social media profiles – Again this is not urgent and falls into the 'Non-Urgent' business tasks category.

     5. Send out a marketing email to past customers

Send out a marketing email to past customers - Also, Not Urgent business task should go straight at the bottom of my

6 . Receive payment from one of my customers – (i.e.) Bill Smith for the project 'Website Design' which was completed last month.

Although this is important, it is non-urgent because it can be automated.

How Can You Prioritize Your Tasks so They Are More Manageable and Efficient?

The following is a step-by-step guide to help you prioritize your tasks so that they are easier to manage and less time-consuming.

  1. Make a list of the tasks that need to be done for your business to continue operating successfully and efficiently (List: Important)
  2. List any tasks that must be completed within 24 hours or less for there not to be an effect on other areas of the business (List: Urgent)
  3. List anything else - for instance, long-term goals or projects - which don't necessarily need attention as urgently but may still need it at some point (List: Non-Urgent).

The key is prioritizing what needs to be done first.

Why is it Important to Prioritize Tasks

One of the benefits of prioritizing your tasks is that you will be more productive. By doing so, you can become more focused on completing the tasks at hand, rather than being stressed out about everything at once. It also allows for less time being wasted on irrelevant things because you know what needs to get done first.

Another way to prioritize tasks is by dividing them into two types: Important and Urgent. This system breaks tasks down into three categories, which are then easier to distinguish between and determine what needs to be done first.

The key is prioritizing what needs to be done first. Prioritize by urgency, importance, and the necessary tasks that need completion for your business to keep running smoothly.

The key to prioritizing tasks is that it will keep you more organized and focused. It also allows for less time being wasted on irrelevant things because you know what needs to get done first. The key is figuring out what tasks are most important, then gradually working your way down the list after that. There are a few different strategies you can try out to make it easier for yourself!

Conclusion

By reading the above tips entrepreneurs can start their own business with limited time and remain successful.

As entrepreneurs work toward growing a brand, they may find that delegation is necessary to handle tasks like accounting or website maintenance. Hopefully, this will help you to understand what to prioritize. Use these tips on how to build a business while also working full-time.

When it comes to your business tasks, prioritizing and planning your workload is the most effective way to get everything done efficiently and on time.
